Introduction to Digital Photography

"BD's Digital Boot Camp"

These are 3 day hands-on workshops in the process of digital photography. We will do shooting, downloading, editing and printing several times to establish good workflow habits. This class will take place in my home in the Landmark Historic District of Savannah, GA, and is limited to 6 students. Because of the small size of the class, a variety of skill levels from (almost) beginner to advanced can be accommodated.

The class requires you to have a laptop computer and editing software for the lab portion of the workshop. Contact me for details.

Classes will cover the terminology and process of digital photography. We will clearly define the digital vocabulary and discuss the various hardware components necessary. Through live demonstrations, we will see how to use the assorted types of software that make up the Digital Darkroom and develop an understanding of the digital photography workflow from beginning to end, from understanding how to set camera menus, shoot and download photos, to how to edit the image and get the best print quality. The material will be appropriate for digital SLR and Point & Shoot camera owners.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

The class is for anyone ready to do digital photography but who feels a little confused or overwhelmed at the prospect:

1) People who love photography as a personal or professional activity and want or need to make the change from film to digital;

2) People who have been given photographic responsibilities at work or in an organization and want to take advantage of the logistical benefits of digital production;

3) People who have been working with a digital camera for awhile, but still need help grasping some of the fundamentals.

WHAT THE CLASS IS NOT

The class will not be just a Photoshop class. We will demonstrate editing techniques and tools as part of the total digital process, from setting camera menus to final printing.

The class will not cover any business or marketing aspects of photography.
